Chicken with Prunes Stew آلو مسمی آذری با مرغ

A simple, comfort and hearty chicken dish with Prunes and Persian saffron. This is a quick and delicious stew or as we say in Farsi (khoresht).
Combination of fried onions, prunes, chicken with Flavour of Saffron, create a trendy dish.


  • Chicken breast /thigh
  • 5-6 prunes for per person
  • 3 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Salt – pepper to taste
  • 1.2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp saffron water
  • Oil


pour water in a pot, add 1 tsp salt. Bring it to boil and add chicken pieces and one chopped onion and garlic. Allow to cook.
Thinly slice two other onions and Sauté in oil. Then add turmeric and peppers. Cook until onions softened. Then add prunes and fry for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
Once chicken cooked, remove them from the pot and fry in a pan until browned. Add chicken meat, and 1 tbsp of saffron water to the sautéed onion. Taste the stew, if there is need, seasoning again.
Add 200 ml water to the stew, and allow to cook on a medium heat for 20 minutes.
Serve it with saffron rice.
